The C2PA Launches Content Credentials 2.3 and Celebrates 5 Years of Impact Across the Digital Ecosystem

Five years ago, the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) launched with a clear goal: to help everyone understand where digital content comes from and how it has changed along the way.

Thousands of companies and organizations implement and contribute to the development of Content Credentials, the open standard published by the C2PA. This level of adoption marks the consolidation of a global movement. Content Credentials underpin provenance features across major platforms that enable millions of users to attach trustworthy metadata to their photos, videos, and other types of media.

The C2PA has recently published Content Credentials 2.3, the latest version of the open standard. This update makes it easier for creators to attach provenance data to their work and gives audiences more clarity on file history.

What’s new in v2.3

  • Live video: Content Credentials is now enabled for live video for applications to broadcast and streaming content.
  • Additional file types: C2PA manifests, which show a file’s history, are now available in plain text documents, OGG Vorbis audio, large AVI video files, and EXIF Original Preservation Images.
  • Clearer editing history: Users can now see more specific details about changes, such as resizing, markup, or redactions.
  • Better cloud integration: Organizations can now point directly to trusted information sources stored in the cloud, making it easier to share context at scale.
  • Stronger security: We updated how we validate data and detect tampering to ensure the information stays reliable.

This release follows the C2PA Conformance Program launched in late 2025, which helps ensure that any product displaying a Content Credential badge handles authenticity data accurately.

As content creation speeds up, the C2PA’s mission is more urgent than ever. The organization is focused on equipping creators and audiences the data they need, and helping platforms surface transparent media.

The launch of Content Credentials 2.3 is more than just another technical update. It is proof that the C2PA is not simply keeping pace with advances in media, but actively shaping how the world responds to human-generated and synthetic content. From live video provenance to generative AI transparency, Content Credentials is setting the standard for provenance.
